I was reading some discussion on Harry’s heteronormative attitude and was thinking about how little opportunity he would have had to encounter a different viewpoint. With Justin, not only was he extremely isolated, but anything Justin was aware of would have been used to control him. Whatever Eb’s views on sexuality, there would have been a heavy theme of "There are a whole bunch of things you Do Not Do if you want both you and I to keep our heads. And even after he got out into the wider world, Morgan breathing down his neck would not have encouraged experimentation. So...

Huh. The first thing my mind jumped to was that Harry probably would have a far more adversarial relationship with men - and I mean probably seeing them as actual, legitimate threats. After all, teenage boys compete, no matter what, and what would keep both Harry and "Alan" better controlled than to constantly be competing for Justin's approval, time, resources, maybe (depending on how Spartan we want Justin to be) things like food, clothing, etc. So you'd have a Harry who automatically slots in males as dangerous. Also, Elaine was pretty much the one good aspect of Harry's adolescence, so he likely would be EVEN MORE wary of people in general. Holy fuck, Harry Dresden with more (and maybe worse) issues than in canon. That is actually frightening.

a) an abandoned mansion;
b) an older, possibly Scandanavian, woman, singing almost a dirge;
c) a non-visible swordswoman, in a room of dust;
d) all sorts of blatant symbology (covered tapestries, destroyed dishes, sea of glasses);
e) oh, and a miniaturized version of a city.
Honestly? I'm not really picky as to specifics. I would love to see a 'story' behind this video - it gives me soooo many questions. Who is that singing? Charity? Sigrun? Molly? To whom? When and why?

Someone has figured out how to make a drug out of wizard blood. The drug can give the people the ability to use magic, or maybe it has other properties. Maybe it enhances their natural talents like the NZT does in the movie. Whatever.
Wizards don't just voluntarily give up their blood, so whoever it is is abducting baby-wizards (apprentices, because they're less able to fight back). Harry gets called in on the disappearances and then he disappears. Because, obviously, if they can capture a full blown wizard and use *his* blood to make the drug it'll be even more potent.
Cue Harry's allies riding to the rescue.

Due to unexpected wacky shenanigans, Harry is temporarily(?) female. Somehow, something happens to Harry, and Marcone gets stuck looking over his faery folk until his return. However, the fae being the fae, at some point realize that Marcone is not only interested in courting Harry, but decide that he is in fact the perfect match for him, and matchmaking conspiracies ensue. Now Harry and Marcone are both equally confused by mixed signals they think are being sent by the other.

Are you looking for the general theme of "someone trying to 'cure' Harry's perceived 'homosexuality' makes him realize that oh wait, he DOES like guys after all," or full on cracky AU with teenagers at a strangely a-religous degayification camp?
I want an AU where, for whatever reason, Harry never gets taken in by DuMorne and never learns magic (whether it's a magicless AU, or Harry doesn't have magic, or he just gets forgotten about is up to you), and things go badly enough for him that canon would be a big improvement, even with all of the issues in it. Either happy or unhappy ending is fine, I just want it to start out really unhappy. (bonus for background things that have gone wrong without Harry putting them right)

I have started one of these (as I mentioned on the f_w post), and am still working on it, but please don't let that stop anyone else from doing it. The plot keeps getting out of hand in mine.
Am still convinced that Twilight Sparkle is basically Harry Dresden, right down to learning a new lesson about how friendship is important at the end of every adventure. :D
