The first time Marcone met Harry Dresden was back when he was still a punk. Harry rescued him from (insert something ridiculous or serious here), and thus, being curious as he was, he started following Harry around. Therefore, Harry had no choice but to teach him about the supernatural.
The thing is, Harry's currently the Winter Knight right now in exchange for Mab protecting him.
Write how that changes things. Does Harry get stupidly attached to John as to get himself in serious trouble (helping him) and inspire John to try to break Harry's contract? Maybe John got a crush on Harry and Harry likes to tease him?
Bonus: Harry teaching John about the Fae helps John learn about loopholes and what to do and what not to do (Dresden is an example of both)
