I'm on a historical fiction kick and this idea really struck me:
As the Roman legions pull back from Britain and parts of Europe, Marcone as a pure-blooded "Roman" actually born in the area, and Harry as a local wizard.
On one hand, in this period of history, everyone believes in wizards, so Harry's social standing is a hell of a lot better among his people and he's not the biggest fan of Romans. On the other hand, Marconius is so damn clever and efficient as a leader and wants Harry on his side. As neighboring tribes start to invade their borders, can they work together?
And of course, in this era of history, it actually isn't all that unrealistic that they might have sex.
