From what I've found on the interwebs: the author is attributed to a story saying having something inserted into the anus makes men gay, which she supports with an anecdote of a friend who was penetrated with a tent peg. Hopefully with lube.
Snopes.com could neither confirm nor deny, so it could just be a wild rumor.
You know those moments where someone says something so completely screwed up that you don't know where to start refuting them?
Just had one of those. I mean the gender dynamics are bad enough, but this... Really? I didn't know people could think such things. Even if she didn't say it, the fact that it is *plausible* for her to have said it.
God, this is like when I met my first crazy evangelist. You think it's a satire, and then someone seriously says it.
It's a proven fact that a single anal sex experience causes one to be homosexual. The hormones released by a sexual situation involving the anus being broached, are the same hormones found in large quantities in effeminate homosexual males. For example, when I was much younger I knew a young man who was for all intents and purposes, heterosexual. He was mugged, and involved in a rape situation involving a tent peg. This one event was enough to have him start on a road that eventually led to him becoming effeminate and gay.
I... I literally do not have the words to discribe how incredibly horrible, insensative and otherwise unbelieveable that is.
I can honestly say that I have never heard anything so mind-boggling in my life. I'm trying to compose a reply with an appropriate tone to convey my total disagreement, but I keep coming up short.
Unfortunately true. I started with the Harper Hall trilogy, forever shining and flawless in my memory, and plowed through about 10 more on the strength of them, gradually getting less and less interest. Eventually I stopped, but still thought fondly of them - Harper Hall! Shining! Flawless! When I heard about the tent peg thing, thought back over the books and realized there were reasons I'd stopped reading them, and that my love for something didn't make its' creator someone I could think well of... That was a bad day.
Pernfandom has sections that are completely nuts, and ... sections that wince and ignore large parts of canon and disclaim a lot of what the creator has said.
(To the extent that infamous interview can be mitigated: she did later at least partially repudiate it, or at least whoever was doing her publicity did (and she's changed her story on green riders repeatedly both before and after that); and she was almost certainly in the early stages of undiagnosed dementia when she gave that interview. That said... she had some pretty horrible interpretations of gay men in some of her early work, too.)
