Okay, I've figured out how to do it on LJ: Edit your post and change the "Allow comments" setting to "Locked". That does not appear to be an option on DW yet though.
Yeah, looks like comment freezing is still by thread only on DWth. Obviously, there's no perfect work around. Off the top of my head, I think the options are either:
1) we share the duty-- or not if emmy's not comfortable with us taking a mod-role in her journal-- of replying to new comments on anything in this post to please move it to the comm (with an explanation in the post body),
2) same as one and (emmy) freezes the commented-on thread (with an explanation in the post body; this one is pretty much all for emmy), or
3) emmy sets this post to screen all new comments (with an explanation in the post body). emmy will still get the notifs, and it's her choice whether or not she wants to reply to those comments? (also all for emmy.)
4) emmy gets to go through and freeze every thread (with an explanation in the post body?). good times. also a lot of work. (also all for emmy. heh.)
