I shouldn't write this because it'll likely come up in my epicfic, but whatever.
It was an accident.
I was looking over a sigil in the Baron's office, trying to suss out who exactly was trying to kill him this time and if it was Winter. If it was Winter, I had to let my Queen know someone was breaking the Accords and going rogue. Knighthood for you.
I looked at the curve of the sigil in my Sight, taking in the icy, sharpness radiating out from it. I knew what Winter magic looked like and that was pretty damning. I sighed.
"What's the verdict, Knight Dresden?" Marcone said and his voice was too close by. I startled slightly, looked up and
A crown. A rusted crown sat on his brow. The metal of it was tarnished and dented, but the center spire rose high and shining over his head. It looked like the Willis Tower, but then Marcone tilted his head and it changed to the Aon. Chicago's Lord.
His eyes were the same. Green eyes peaked out through the slits in a mask. It covered his face from his brow downward to curve over the apples of his cheeks. It was black, opaque leather, seeming to suck in light. It drew my attention, like I was supposed to be taken in by the mask and avoid looking at the rest of him. It took a lot of effort to look away.
His crown and mask were at odds with his clothes-- the same suit he wore outside my Sight, but red. He was soaked in red, enough to make his suit thick and heavy, weighing down on him. It looked heavy. Blood dripped over his skin, marring the lines over his skin: tiger stripes.
I looked away, back to the sigil, vaguely aware I was breathing hard, my heart thumping in my chest.
"Knight Dresden?"
"Give me a sec," I breathed. I shut my eyes and futilely tried to push the image of Marcone out of my mind. It wouldn't budge, this visage shining behind my lids.
Marcone won't let him react like that, obviously. What if something was really wrong with him? And, of course, Harry won't want to ADMIT to what he actually saw...
Anons, I'm flattered, but I really don't have any ideas for how to expand on it. Ya'll can feel free to use it if you like. It was just a spur of the moment thing.
oh god xD I read this comment before the fic and somehow managed to see "loved the clown in the red suit"... so many cracky plotbunnies, I can't even count them :D
