...and I don't mean just one character. What if every character in the Dresden!verse was the opposite gender? How would their relationships change? Harry's ideas about chivalry? Marcone ruling a male dominated Outfit as a woman. Murphy would make a good man, methinks. also, Sanya and Micheal as female knights would be awesome.
Stay-at-home-Dad!Charity would be interesting. All mother-henning and insanely secure in his masculinity and "Yes-I-did-just-bake-a-pan-of-brownies-and-get-the-kids-off-to-school-and-I'm-going-to-watch-the-baby-while-my-wife-builds-houses-do-you-have-a-problem-with-that?
And Ramirez would talk about sex even more and ZOMG Eb!
Harry wouldn't have the ideas about chivalry he has now, that's for damn sure. Fem!Harry would absolutely hate being treated the way regular Harry treats women. She'd be feisty and determinedly independent and she wouldn't conform to gender roles and I would love her to bits.
That said, I think she'd have some issues with being female, on top of the previously existing issues with sex. Maybe his sexism would translate into internalized misogyny or something for her?
As for man!Murphy, he'd be a bit less irate than regular Murphy, on account of not being constantly underestimated/ dismissed/ having to prove himself. But he'd still be short and tiny and cute-- and annoyed that Harry was so much taller.
OP, how would you feel if I ran with just one character? Or just one primary character, and a few secondary? Because I'm getting really fascinated by a couple ideas of what would happen if Marcone were a female Mafia godmother, and what would have to happen.
And ZOMG, a quotation from this article about women rising in Sicilian organized crime (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/23/godmothers-rise-among-nap_n_266508.html) has filled my head with bunnies: Camorra women still perform the more "traditional" roles of cutting and repackaging cocaine and heroin in their kitchens or tidying up the hideouts of fugitive bosses, but others are wielding power on the streets.
Gender Reversal...
