John Marcone in a previous life was Emperor Palpatine. Can you imagine what he would have gone thru before being reborn for arranging so much death, especially the deaths of the young Jedi. It is now ingrained on his soul not to hurt children.

Harry Dresden in a previous life was Anikin Skywalker. This just might explain his bad luck and inability to work for Marcone (It didn't go so well for him the last time).
