As various anons were discussing in the John Marcone facts upmeme, Marcone is a man who plans ahead. Always running the numbers, as one excellent fic author put it.
Show me a time when he doesn't think ahead. An uncalculated kiss, an impulsive confession--what would it take? Near-death experiences won't cut it; he's been through too many. I don't want magic- or drug-induced loss of control, either, lovely as those can be. I want to see John Marcone blindsided by his emotions and not able to clamp down in time.
Scenario is up to you. A couple of possibilities that occur to me, which you are free to use, ignore, or twist to your purposes: John thinks Harry is dead, mourns him, and finds him unexpectedly alive. Harry finds a way to wake Amanda (and it works).
...okay, I can't think of any others. But maybe you can, anon! Let's see the Gentleman lose his composure.
Marcone/Dresden, acting on impulse
